Nutrition Reset

Happy New Year! I have spent the first ten days of the new year setting my intentions for the year. My biggest goal for the year is to be intentional in all aspects of my life. With this in mind, I have been using a new planner that was gifted to me by a friend. In the past I have been resistant to complicated planners but I am fully embracing this planner and I am loving it! It is helping me think about time and how I want to spend it. This week I focused on being intentional with my food - I started a detox and purged coffee, alcohol and sugar from my diet. I had hoped to remove gluten too but I just couldn’t resist freshly baked sourdough! I ate a lot of vegetables and tried to eat vegetables I don’t usually eat - the jicama and apple salad was a hit!

I am often asked for my top tips on nutrition and healthy eating so I put together this handy document. My approach is to focus on the foods that we want to eat more of and by doing this, it will crowd out the foods we don’t want to eat. This is not an exhaustive list. You will notice that I don’t specifically mention removing alcohol. However regulating blood sugar is on my list. If you want to regulate blood sugar, then you will have to remove alcohol from your diet. It’s just a different mindset.

If this list may seem overwhelming, take a deep breath and think about the one change you can make that would have the most impact in your daily life. For example, if you drink store bought almond or oat milk every day then I would recommend looking at the ingredient list and trying to find one that doesn’t include gums and oils. What is one change you could make starting tomorrow? Need help being accountable? Find a friend or family member to join you in making the change.

Remember eating healthy looks different for everyone. Ask yourself how you can be intentional with your food choices. Consider setting nutrition goals for the month or the year. And if you would like more information, coaching and accountability, then feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss nutritional coaching. I love helping people figure out their health and wellness goals and supporting them as they start on their path to realizing their goals.
